Founder of KHALSA
GURU GOBIND SINGH JEE (1666 – 1708)
The defender of Hindu Dharma (The Founder of Khalsa)
Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji was born December 22nd in 1666 AD at Patna Sahib in the State of Bihar, India. Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji was the only son of Sri Guru TegBahadur Ji. He became Guru at the age of 9. HE IS THE CREATOR AND FOUNDER OF PANTH KHALSA.He took up the sword to fight against the oppression of the contemporary rulers. He infused a martial spirit in his followers through soul inspiring and heart stirring heroic poetry. On March 30th 1699, he evolved a new order in the more than two centuries old Sikh tradition, which became known as the Khalsa. He fought several battles against the Mughal monarchy and Hill Chiefs. Guru Gobind Singh also founded the city Paonta Sahib in Himachal Pradesh in 1685.
Tenth of the Sikh Gurus, Guru Gobind Singh (1666-1708 C.E.) lived during an extremely dangerous time. His father, Guru Teg Bahadur, had sacrificed his own head to protect freedom of religion for Hindus, who were being threatened with conversion or death by zealous Muslim rulers. Abduction of women and pillage of goods were rampant, but the people were too timid and terrorized to resist. In the midst of this political situation, Guru Gobind Singh gained great stature as both saint and soldier: a leader of firm spiritual principles and intense devotion to God, and at the same time, fearless dedication to protecting all people from oppression and injustice. In 1699, he dramatically initiated five men from the lower castes as his Five Beloveds, more popularly known as PANJHH PYARE blessing them with great courage as well as nearness to God.
They became models for the Khalsa, the order of the pure which Guru Gobind Singh created to stand on the front line against injustice. The Khalsa were held to a very strict moral and spiritual discipline and under Guru Gobind Singh's courageous inspiration, helped to turn the tide against Mughal oppression in India. In addition to his spiritual and military leadership, Guru Gobind Singh was a gifted intellectual, and had many poets in his court. He was inspired to write many powerful spiritual compositions, including Jaap Sahib, but did not include them in the Sikh scriptttture, the Guru Granth Sahib. His writings have instead been collected in a separate volume, called the Dasam Granth.
In 1708, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji gave Guruship to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji . The first holy book of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji was compiled by Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji. The work on compilation was started in 1601 and completed in 1604 .This was installed at Harimandir Sahib in 1604. The Pothi was called Kartarpuri Bir. Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji added Hymns of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji to the Pothi Sahib AND called it GURU GRANTH SAHIB JI and said that this shall be the final living Sikh Guru and thereafter no more Sikh human Gurus. Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji said that the MISSION of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji has been completed. The Sikhs will get their guidance from Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and temporal advice from Panj Pyare . Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji has 1430 pages.
