After the First World War there was a lot of hate and mistrust between people So the U.S. Congress in 1935 officially declared the first Sunday of August to be Friendship Day. The holiday later caught on in other countries as a noble tradition to be carried out, and in 1997 the United Nations even named A. A. Milne's fictional teddy bear, "Winnie the Pooh" as the World's ambassador of Friendship. In Canada, The Winnipeg Friendship Festival was for many years, known as the Winnie the Pooh Festival in honour of the bear Winnipeg who was said to be the inspiration behind the book.
The tradition of Friendship Day bands was introduced and made popular in India through Bollywood movies like Kuch Kuch Hota Hain. People also get together and exchange cards, poems and gifts with their friends and recall old memories of time spent together on this day.
Lets celebrate the FRIENDSHIP DAY by wishing everyone in CCI
