On 26th January 1930, Indian National Congress had adopted resolution of FULL FREEDOM from British rule. Then onwards every year 26th January was celebrated by the freedom fighters as the Independence Day.
India gained freedom on 15th Aug.1947. Initially the Government ran on British pattern, with the Governor General as the head of the State. But in the meantime writing of the great Indian Constitution was on progress by the Constituent Assembly headed by Dr. Bhim Rao Abedkar.
Constitution was ready in January 1950.
26th January 1950 was chosen as the fittest date to implement Democracy in India. This day, the Great Constitution of India was enforced and India became Federal Democratic Republic.
The Post of Governor General was abolished and the President became the head of the state.
Since then, 26th January is Celebrated every year as Republic Day and 15th August as Independence Day.
