GUJARAT ANNUAL PLAN 2009-10 FINALIZED |

The Annual Plan for Gujarat for the year 2009-10 was finalized at a meeting, here today, between the Deputy Chairman Planning Commission, Shri Montek Singh Ahluwalia and the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Narendra Modi. Plan size for the current year was agreed at Rs. 23500 crores. This includes additional Central assistance of Rs.150 crores for projects of special importance to the State. In his comments on the Plan performance of the State, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission Mr. Ahluwalia said that the State has been meeting plan targets. Public private partnership is being tried in all sectors including agriculture and emphasis is on development of infrastructure. More efforts are needed in sectors like education and health and State should take advantage of schemes launched in these sectors by the Central Government. He said Planning Commission is working on the mid term appraisal of Eleventh Plan and expects to finalize before the end of the year. He said since emphasis is high on social sector schemes particularly flagship programmes, States should come forward with their observations and problems if any being faced in the timely implementation of the schemes. This would help commission in carrying out corrections to improve their efficiency. Attention was also drawn to gender gap in literacy and s*x ratio. It was also pointed out that state has been performing well on the economic front and agriculture growth is satisfactory. In view of high per capita income it was suggested that focused effort should be made to increase tax revenue. In his remarks on the plan programme of the State, the Chief Minister said that the State has been achieving new milestone and breaking new frontiers in the global arena. He said growth has to be translated into better lives for the people and the State government was focusing on improving the human development index. He said the development expenditure has grown for the last few years on account of greater public spending in education, health, nutrition, water supply, welfare of weaker section, agriculture & irrigation and by controlling non-developmental expenditure. He said during the current financial year priority has been given to social services in view of the overall objective of improving human development index of the State. |
