Guide on How to Submit “Response for Refund Confirmation”

For the Financial Year 2021-22, You may get email from Income tax department if there are any mismatch between details provided in your Income Tax return and 26AS / AIS.

Following email is received by taxpayers -

Your income-tax return has been identified under risk management process of the Income-Tax Department. In this context, your confirmation is required on the following claim(s)/deduction(s)/omissions in the return. Reason: It is seen that you have revised your return of reduced gross total income. Verify correctness in your claim in respect of reduced gross total income in your return of income.

 

To submit the response, please login to e-Filing portal >>Pending Action >>Worklist>> ‘Response for Refund Confirmation’ and select the correct option.

 

  1. If you have correctly claimed all deductions and has shown all incomes as per AIS,

           Please selection option

        - The claims in my return of income are correct.

 

  1. If you have claimed excess deductions than actual or you have failed to report any income then please select the option  

-I will revise my return of income to correct the amount of refund claimed

 

In case you have selected option 1, you don’t have to do anything further, your ITR should be processed after submission of response.

 

In case you have selected option 2, You have to revise your income tax return and correct the claim of refund.

 

There is no need to worry if you have claimed correct refund and still got this email due to mismatch in 26AS/AIS because of any reason.

 

If you don’t submit response within 15 days of receipt of such income, your ITR may not be processed and you may receive any further communication from Income Tax Department. As of now there is no clarity or guidance on what will happen if you don’t submit your response within 15 days.
