I have generated GSTR-1 (Json) file through GST Offline Tool for the m/o July-2017 on 03-09-2017 and the same has been filed/uploaded at Online GST Portal (https://return.gst.gov.in/returns/auth/gstr/offlineupload).

On 05-09-2017 I have downloaded one Error (Json) file having errors message (The GSTIN is invalid. Please enter a valid GSTIN.) for some invoices, but there is no facility in GST Offline Tool to edit/update the GSTN of supplier.

the Invoice which have errors are not available on Online GST Portal, so the same can not be edited /updated online also.

E MAILED TO : helpdesk @ gst.gov.in : Kindly provide updated GST OFFLINE TOOL with download the error invoices in excel to edit/update also as there may be huge data to edit.

As the return is still need to be uploaded, you can delete that entry and can make fresh one...

Hi Harish.. I also had tried the same thing and also went through PDF attached in offline utility folder.
I don't think we can edit the same in offline utility as it takes it to be right ..and error occurs only when the same is uploaded to portal.
so according to offline utility GSTN is right so it doesn't allow to edit the same.
This is what I understand..and if you get to know how it can be changed do let me know .

you can edit your original excel file and then again make same process.

I also have same issue.But resolved by entering error GSTIN in online (if have few invoices) utility

We are facing the below mention problem while uploading the jason file in offline utility "File could not be uploaded! Download the latest version of Offline tool to generate the JSON file or ensure to validate your uploaded file against the template published at Specification Portal."
