Gst number cancellation

Cancellation of provisional GST is possible since half September 2017. See:

When you have already GSTIN, but you still like to cancel,  you have to file FORM GST REG-16 for which no option online is available in the GST portal. Who knows the way of where and how to file this form REG-16?

Login on GST portla and click:  <Cancellation of Registration of Migrated Taxpayer>

You receive an OTP on your registerd mobile.

Proceed and you get an acknowledgement on your registered e-mail ID with the warning: "In reference to the above application, your provisional ID is cancelled effective from appointed date. The application is subject to verification by the jurisdictional tax officer and an appropriate action may be taken by him."
 

After that you can not enter the GST portal anymore. You get the message: "Provisional Registration is Cancelled and hence login is not allowed. If you have not applied for cancellation, you may contact jurisdictional officer under VAT/ Service Tax/ Excise as applicable.."
