Can someone suggest me a good book on the indirect taxes, especially customs and excise, which gives a strong knowledge on the fundamentals?

Go for Vaitheeswaran's book on indirect taxes. this is very useful in the examination point of view. If you want to gain absolute command over the subject, then go for yoginder bangar's book.

visit this website for primers on various indirect laws.. www.dateyvs.com
gives mr. datey's primers on sales tax, excise, customs etc.. very informative and useful for quick reference
