MELBOURNE: A 23-year-old Indian student was beaten up for the second time in a fortnight by a group of youths in Melbourne, the 11th person from within a space of a month in Australia.

IOC Chief Dr. Amarjit Tanda Meets Indian Students In Australia An incident was reported about an attack on two students in Australia of Indian origin, in Sydney Australia. The incident has sparked the safety alarm for thousands of parents whose children are studying in Australia, especially from punjab as a vast number of students have gone for vocation and specialized educational course there. The recent alleged racial attack has put concerns and worries about the educational destination. The authorities have arrested couple teenagers and have put them under inquiry. One of the victims - Shravan Kumar - is still in a critical condition. Prime Minister Rudd said that the overwhelming majority of Indian students were safe and that he took the issue of the security of all foreign students in Australia very seriously. He said that he was appalled by the attacks and that the concerned authorities would work to bring the perpetrators to justice,’’ a PMO release said.Are Indian Students Safe In Australia

Till now Australia had been considered as quite and peaceful country and the best destination for higher studies for punjab region students. Various NGO and regional organizations along with parents have requested Indian Government to discuss the issue with AU counterparts and to actively take action against the offenders.
