One of my acquaintance paid 6480Rs as self assessment tax in AY21-22 but probably forgot to add challan number before filing ITR. He got notice to pay outstanding dues around 8k(with interest). How to rectify this mistake?

You need to file revised return and that time u can add missing challan no. there
