Hello Members,

Apple Macintosh computers run on an operating system exclusive to the Mac platform. This makes software designed for Windows, Linux, Unix or other operating systems unusable on a Mac. Many major financial software manufacturers offer Mac software versions, but if you want a program solely designed for the Mac environment, you have that option as well.

Types: Financial software covers a broad range of program types, including spreadsheets, payroll programs, budgeting software and tax software. Stock market tracking software can also be part of a financial package for some users, as can programs that help you manage online bill payments and bank and credit card accounts.

Basic Financial Management: If all you need is to create a budget and perform basic calculations, the spreadsheet program Numbers, which is part of Apple's iWork suite, will suit your needs. This program has a variety of templates you can use to create a budget without having programming skills, and the built-in tutorials can get you started without formal training.

Accounting Software: Two brands that continually get four out of five stars from Mac World for their financial software are Intuit and MYOB. Intuit's Quicken software offers personal and small business accounting software with a simple user interface, while MYOB offers a basic package for personal and small business users in FirstEdge, and a more advanced small business accounting package in AccountEdge.

Taxes and Specialty Software: TurboTax offers a highly rated version of its tax software for Macs, with all levels of the product rated at four or more stars. Tax programs change each year, so check the IRS website's FreeFile program for online options and software you can download that may allow you to do your taxes for free or low cost using your Mac.
