More meetings. with beauracrats !! just what our leaders love to do. I remember in 1998 we had a very young and dynamic president when Service tax was introduced on all services of CA's alone. Then similar meetings between the leaders took place. meanwhile some of our members took to the streets and there was a dharna in front of parliament by our members. Then the beauracrats calledour president and told him that if we dont relent on the service tax issue, then they will take away the "tax audit" from us!!. So the president agreed to the service tax.
As a community and profession we seem to have lost our collective strength. expecting our council members to represent the best interests of the profession has become a joke.
We should be able to react procatively and hit the machinery where it hurts most so that our rights are protected. For eg. we should refuse to certify the Elections expenditure which will be required now under the ROP act collectively. No CA should certify any statement across the country. This will wake up the MPs who will want to know why. The only way to protect rights today is to make sure that the violation of your rights affects the general public.
Central Council are you listening?? or rather are you ready.
