Filing of return

Sir, I had tax deducted by employer and filed return till last AY. However, current year my earning after deducting standard deductions, like Housing loan interest + NPS contribution etc, my income does not have tax. Do I need to file a return with NIL Tax.

If you have above 2.5 lakhs taxable income you should file return

other wise no need for filing returns

you are required to file....because as per language of section 139(1) ...return is required to be filed ..when total income before claiming deduction exceeds basic exemption limit

ITR is required if Your total income exceeding BEL.

As per Your ITR is mandatory if Tax / TDS payable or not.
if your income doesn't exceed BEL Rs.250000 before claiming chapter VIA deductions .,then you no need to file the return u/s 139(1)

in case the Net total taxable income(after deducting exemption and deductions) does not exceed 2.5Lakh, there is no need to file ITR.

the sec says who get income above 2.5lakhs then he must file his ITR even he have some deductions...

Read the same sec when ITR is mandatory...
