About drafting basic steps for example when a client asks question and opinion to be given (use very simple language and not flowery language) are as under. But first drafting is about communication and clear thinking rather than about language. Dont draft something till you write bullet points about how you want to explain it. Remember client is more interested in the conclusion rather than how you arrived at the conclusion. They dont like ifs and buts in the conclusion. if you find several interpretations are possible state them but finally give a recommendation based on the facts of the case. Or send the draft note for discussion with the client and then through discussion let the conclusion evolve. Do not get attached to an outcome or conclusion – dont accept any authority. Be open at work and in life that is the only way one
can learn.

1. Find out whether the question is appropriate or needs to be redrafted first!

2. State the facts and objectives very clearly

3. Analysis here the client is not interested in everything super technical. You are demonstrating here that you have considered all the issues.

4. Recommendation/ conclusions

The above can be used also for email communication. With emails sometimes one needs to state the answer first and then explain why it is so.
