EX-SNOOKER CHAMP AT CUMBRIAN ACCOUNTANTS' DINNER
Last updated 16:39, Wednesday, 21 January 2009 Former world snooker champion Dennis Taylor is the star turn at this year’s Cumberland Society of Chartered Accountants’ (CSCA) annual dinner. The genial Irishman will be entertaining CSCA members and their guests at the Greenhill Hotel, Wigton, on March 6. Robin Fieth, executive director, finance and operations, of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales will also be speaking. Taylor’s biggest moment was in 1985 when he won a thrilling World Championship final on the final black ball of the last frame against Steve Davis. An estimated 18 million TV viewers stayed up into the early hours to watch. CSCA chairman Peter Ellwood said: “That 1985 world snooker final has gone down in the annals of sporting history and I’m sure many people will remember staying up until the early hours to see how the match finished. I’m sure Dennis will be a most entertaining speaker.” The black tie dinner is sponsored by NatWest. Tickets cost £36.50 and free transport from Carlisle, Whitehaven and Penrith will be provided, subject to demand.
