Embedded derivatives are splitted from host contract and fair valued if the economic characteristics of the embedded derivative are different from the host contract. However, under IFRS 9 (amended IAS 39) recently issued by IASB, embedded derivatives would not be required to be splitted as the entire financial instrument would be required to be fair valued. Thus only derivatives embedded in non financial instruments would be required to be splitted and fair valued.
