My friend has filed revised return through E-filling after receiving the intimation U/S 143(1). Is it neccessary for him to deposit the copy of the same in the Income Tax Office?

I think, he should, as there was an assessment order. It is always better the clear it off, so intimate the AO preferably in person regarding the mistake in self assessment and remedy done to solve such mistake
