It isn't compulsory to quote sections in the law paper at the PCC or PE2 level.but at the final level you may better quote the sections.

Examiner will not deduct marks for that? As it is given in RTP and suggested answers with section.
And specially for income tax where the institute asking objective type question.

i would say rather u inculcate the habit of doing study with section number.
and you will notice that law study is very interesting. we will get the different feeling when u are doing with section numbers. the logic is simple the more u do/read/write the more it becames general for .
try these and then say.
not only in compnay law but in other subjects as well such as excise, custum, income tax etc etc.
and after all every body writes the same question's answer. the moderator will also feel good to see a very nice answer.

for PCC/ PE-2 quoting the sections are not important. But if you quote the section, it should be correct. Marks will not be deducted if sections are not quoted.

If you know the sections then its well and good but if you don't know then don't mention wrong section no......otherwise your whole answer will go wrong.
If you don't know section then you should start your answer by mentioning the relevant Act. For e.g. if question pertains to Companies Act, then your answer should start like "As per the Companies Act, 1956............................." and give explanation to case. By presenting this you will get good marks.
I followed the same paterrn and scored 66 in Law in PE-2.

Yes, Mr. Praveen, quoting section no. will fetch more marks.......but what if you don't remember the section no.........then you cannot quote wrong section no.

many people say that in doesn matter whether we quote section or not.
but the valuater's coments always consist the sentence quoting "it is suggested for students to quote sections and relevant case laws"
so tink it would be better if we quote

It is always advisable to quote section no. but its very difficult to remember all the sections as we have to study Law, IT and IDT. So try to remember the Section no for important chapters like Directors in Law. For rest of the cases try to remember case laws and landmark decisions.
If your answer contains Section no. for some answers and case laws for some then no doubt you will get good marks.
Answers of law if supported with sections always fetch good marks....But remembering so many sections is a tough job, no doubt..So I suggest u to atleast remember important sections which are frequently asked...And also prepare short notes of all sections while studying..As it will be easier for u to remember...
