Difficult words and there respective meaning (CPT students)

As CPT student we came accross many difficult words from out study matrial. I request all memeber to post the difficult words (or terms) and there respective means. It would be great help.

E.g.

Quadrupled =Increase or be increased fourfold

(General economics...Page no. 271.  "Thus, over the a period of 100 years, our population has more than quadrupled.")

Note: Please don't repeat any word or term.

some of the difficult words from mercantile laws (CPT)

1) Discretion = Freedom to decide.

2) Plaintiff= A person bringing a case aganist another in a court of law.

3) Asserts= State confidently 

4) Stifle= Suppress

5) Preversion= Unacceptable

6) Litigation= Take a dispute or claim to a law court. 

7) Waive =Refrain (stop one-self from doing something) from insisting on a right or claim

8) Dispense = Leave

9) Malady= illness

10) Absolved = Clear of guilt or blame
