02 February 2015An individual had been claiming interest benefit for the Housing Loan availed by him jointly with his wife till FY 2013-2014.
The housing loan has now been closed. Now the said individual is claiming HRA exemption on the same property from the FY 2014-15 stating he is paying rent to his wife.
Please clarify if the same is in order

Is he still owner of said propertty in Society Register etc..? If yes then he can not claim HRA for said property!

No he can not claim HRA exemption by showing that paying rent to his wife.
