I am an IPCC student:

u/s 80D for parents we can deduct 15000 from GTI and if either parent is a senior citizen , limit is 20000.

I was solving a Question where :

1) 16000 is paid for NRI mother's mediclaim.

2)  3000 for father who is 62 years of age.

so here what is the amount that we can deduct from GTI u/s 80D.

Please reply as soon as possible.

Senior citizen for this purpose means and individual resident in India who is of the age of sixty years more.

So the answer to your question is Rs.15000.

I have assumed here that farther is also NRI.

If it is not the case then collectively exemption for Rs.20000 is allowed. As premium is less tha 20000, the person would get exemption of 19000 u/s 80D.

Thank you for the reply.

The father isn't NRI.

actually even i was of the same opinion but the solution to which i was referring said 18000 as deduction : 15000 for mother and 3000 for father. So that confused me.

Rs 19000 isallowed,Further there is an amendement wef  Ay 13-14 in 80D,which allows additional deduction of health check up Rs 5000/-

5000 for preventive health check is not additional deduction but included in 15000 or 20000.

yeah with in limit

mean to say 5000/- additionally individually but with inlimit
