The Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India (ICWAI) is taking a proactive approach to ensure higher success rate of students in the Cost Accountancy examination. This was stated by ICWAI president K Jaisingh, who was here to attend the Regional Conference of Cost and Management Accountants. |
Admitting that low pass percentage is a major deterrent in attracting more students to the profession, Jaisingh said, the objective of ICWAI has always been producing world-class professionals. The current pass percentage stands at a poor 25 per cent. |
He, however, said that with the government now planning to open the profession to foreign competition and the demand of the job becoming more and more sophisticated, the examination process cannot be diluted. |
Instead the institute is increasing the training base and facilities to enhance the success rate of students by emphasising on group discussions and practical training, he said and added that ICWAI is now providing more study materials than before and advising students to use the internet extensively to perform better in the examination. |
Jaisingh said in WTO regime the role of CAs had become crucial for survival of any industry. |
The job of a CA is no longer book-keeping or maintaining a debit and credit record. It has become more of a cost control and cost analysis type of job, he said. |
ICWAI has instituted cost reduction award to encourage CA professionals to work on this subject.
