Confusion regarding Articleship

I am a student who has appeared for CBSE class 12th examinations in March 2010 and am awaiting my results.

I have registered for the CPT exam for June 2010 and am now on the lookout for a good commerce college in Mumbai to do a B.Com degree alongwith pursuing my CA studies.

The confusion I face is that how do CA students manage to do articleship and college degree at the same time plus study for the examinations? Are there any good colleges in Mumbai which do not require compulsory attendance for students doing articleship? If yes, please list them. Also if there is any other important information regarding the simultaneous C.A. + B.Com course , please enlighten me.

It is manageable dude!!! Thousands of people are doing it.

The college timings would be in the morning that is 7-9.30 or 10 and articleship would be normal business hours after 10.30.

Well in the new scheme you first clear CPT then IPCC and then join for articleship.

So the question of joining articleship is far for at least 13 to 14 months. So you can sail through easily the first year.

As far as the preparation of college exams are concerned there is not much to strive for it as you are studying for higher level, you will find it easy.

In fact nowadays, even colleges understand that students are pursuing professional courses simultaneously so wont have much difficulties. The only need to do is to maintain reasonable attendance and get fair marks in exams.

It is advisable to take articleship near to your college.

R.A. Podar and N.M. colleges are good for those pursuing CA as 70% of the students of these colleges goes for it.

Apart from that H.R., K.C., Sydhenam, etc are good colleges.

Hi Vivek..

If you have got great marks, don't worry and get yourself admitted to NM College.

Even I was in NM and those guys helped us a lot. There is some serious requirement of attendance, but it is manageable.

Do full time BCom+CA and if possible do A'ship from very good firms. Dont' ever do it in a small firm. They cheat you. INstead take dummy and do xtra courses like CS or CFA.

Believe me, I am in FInals and have done a big mistake by doin A'ship in a small firm.

@ Sahil . What are the colleges in Mumbai that work under the IGNOU scheme?

@ Kaushik . I understand that the first year would be a smooth sail , but I wouldn't want any problems to arise later. Do these colleges which you have listed have separate timings for students doing articleship? What is a reasonable attendance in these colleges?

@ Shriharsh. I have heard that NM college don't take any application from outside and only take the in-house students that have completed junior college with them. Is that true? And I feel against doing a dummy as it would deprive me of some important work and training experience.

Ah! Yes...that's true....outsiders do not get chance.....

Also, A'ship would deprive you of some imp work, but that is only when you are in good firm...

I am not in a good firm, and before joining I was told you will get to learn and all sorts of imaginary stuff...

If you get chance in really good firm, then u must do it. Anyways, make your terms very clear about overtime, comp-off, leave allowed, etc. It is creating problem to me, but it should not to you..

yes you r right . but i think making one's term clear about overtime , comp-off , leave etc is not going to be of any use since one cannot take transfer if one finds himself/herself to be duped.

Falod bhai, never do bcom from correspondence. And don't do with institute (correspondence) who are having tie-ups with ICAI. If u wanna do from correspondence; do from DU-SOL of delhi university.

I did the gr8est mistake of my life to join IGNOU(a&f). Because of that; i am finding ineligible to aplly for higher studies abroad like mba,cpa and cfa.

I would suggest you not to go for Ignou (a&f) rather no ignou at all. I am doing from ignou; hence i am suffering. It has no quality; and no value of course. And doing it wont make u eligible for MBA, PG courses, CPA; CFA abroad.

Go for regular collge. Just make sure its UGC,AICTE recognised. You can manage it. IGNOU is bhangaar.Even class 7 baccha can pass its bcom(a&F)'s 6 papers. Syllabus hasn't been updated since 1996. They are teaching FERa 1993.see................
