ITS ADVISABLE STUDY WITH BOTH ( INSTITUTE MATERIALS AND RERERENCE BOOK) USE INSTITUTE MATERIAL FOR BASIC CONCEPT.............
Generally, in the case of Securities that are listed in recognised stock exchange in India, then they are treated as Short Term Capital Asset if it is held not more than 12 months. And nothing is mentioned in this book about Foreign Securities.

For calculating cap gains on foreign securities, holding period shall be taken as exceeding 36 months for LTCG........
As proviso to Sec.2(42A) specifies only indian securities, or securities listed on indian bourses or mutual funds.........
Hence any foreign security held for more than 36 months shall be taken as long term.......
