We are in hotel business, we purchasing the Charcoal from one of our vendor. He is registered the Vat. He is charging 5% Vat on the charcoal.
But as per my knowledge charcoal exempted from tax in karnataka,,, but he registered in Karnataka Govt.
So my question is Charcoal exempted from Tax but he registered in Govt. How is it possible..

If charcoal is exempt from tax and still the seller has charged VAT, you can correspond with him and obtain a Debit Note for the excess amount collected from you and he can file a revised return within six months.
