Hey buddy Prospectus says that a student pursuing CA cannot study CFA. Check if there was any notification for removal of such restriction.

Well according to institute, a person who is a CA cannot be a CFA as they both are different field. That is CFA makes financial statements and analyses them but CA are mostly auditors. In an case as I said before you should get confirmation regarding institute's current status regarding CFA. I distinctly remember institute allowing students or CAs to pursue CFA through a notification but that might be a filament of my imagination. I suggest you to directly confirm it from institute.

Well frankly speaking I feel that it is more about competing organizations. CFA are taking away some portion of CA jobs and it becomes imperative for ICAI to discredit them. CFA is actually a private course run famous for its quality. CA is a course directly authorised from Parliament through an act. The difference ends there. Articleship is also absent in CFA. In any case if both are same type of course why would you want to do CFA. Answering this question might provide with you an answer. I found the condition really funny when I saw it first that is why I believe that it must have been removed now.
I don't know much about CFA but I realize that any person who is doing CA can easily clear CFA which makes that degree even more useless to me personally. However, if it is offering something new in knowledge than having both degrees is definitely going to look good on your resume. If are going to enter into practise any degree apart from CA will be useless with the exception of law.
I am not the person who can advise you about CFA but I don't understand why other's who have knowledge about CFA are not making any contribution.

@ Ankit Tiwari:
In my view, there is no such restriction from ICAI, if you want to do the course after your CA. There are many Indian CAs who are qualified CFA (US). Take a look at the following link, which contains overview of the overall course structure. For now, CFA Level I exam is in Dec 2011, examination centres in India are Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi. But I think Dec exam registrations are closed. So you can take only in June 2012, if you meet the eligibility requirements. However, CFA syllabus will be updating every year and the CFA Institute has to take Court approval for conducting exams in India. So if court for a particular term of examination is not giving approval, then you need to choose exam centre out of India. Definitely the course adds value to the Resume. No doubt in it.

There was a bar by the ICAI - the apex Indian body for Chartered Accountancy from pursuing or joining INDIAN CFA of Icfai university, After nearly two decades, the ICFAI (Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India) has won the 'chartered' row against the ICAI (Institute of Chartered Accountants of India). In a decision dated May 16, 2007, the court ruled in favour of ICFAI, by setting aside an earlier verdict of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, which had allowed the ICAI to prohibit its members from using the descripttion 'Chartered Financial Analyst' or its abbreviation CFA.
