13 October 2009as per new tds rates from 1-10-09 first I came to know that their is no surcharge & cess applicable only tds will be deducted. but now someone is telling me the cesses are also applicable, iam in confusion if any one know the correct rates please guide me.

yes you are right regarding Surcharge & Cess
• No Surcharge and Cess is applicable for TDS (Applicable from 01-04-2009)
• Cess is applicable on Salary Payments as before

1. Surcharge is only applicable in case of payment to foreign company when payment is more than 1 crore.
2. Education cess is applicable only in case of Salary TDS and in case of payment to non-resident or foreign company.
