Career guidance

Hi everyone,

I am little confused about my further studies and hence need guidance...Here is my profile which is below average.

10th- 50% cbse (2003)
12th- 66% cbse (2005)commerce
Grad- 42% B.comp Delhi univ.(correspondence) (2009)
Grad repeated- 73% B.com Pass (correspondence from tier3 univ.) (2012)

Work ex- small family garment business 3 years( but b schools wont consider it.)

I have taken CAT this year but didnt get any fruitful result, now i am little double minded weather to do a professional study like CA or continue with CAT prep for coming season.

I know both are very succesful degree/certificates ..but few negative things that are coming to my mind considering my week profile.

MBA- Even if i get call from good colleges in the coming season how will i convert them with this profile, more over since both my graduations were in correspodence they will consider it as no work ex though i joined my family business later.

CA- Mandatory internship for 3 years with less than 5k salary per month. Also this is the minimum that to be a CA it can take 4 or 5 years to if i dont clear it in my 1st attempt.

At present my age is 25, so even age is also not in my side.

So kindly help me seniors, people who have gone through this, people who are at similar condition or anyone.

Thanks in advance.

Dear 007,

1st let me tell u that MBA and CA are 2 different platforms and dunt think this as just an Degree/Course to get settle in your life, analyse and talk to experienced ppl on deciding where ur interest lies in.

here are sum listed points based on which u can do an self evaluation taking into the account on ya age and other matters :

  1. CA takes minimum 3 yrs provided u pass the exams in 1st attempt, u sld focus and be devoted for full 3 yrs to achieve the same. Whereas MBA takes a FIXED 2 yrs if uve scored good marks in CAT.
  2. CA is about finance, accounts, tax related and internal risk / controls of firms. But MBA u will have HR / finance, business mgmt, economics related areas.
  3. ofcourse CA is much valued then MBA but good things always cumes with a heavy price, i wunt say passing is difficult but u need to do ur planning and preparation well wid a but of luck by ur side. However once u get into mba u will sumhow study and clear it and doesnt need as preparations reqd for CA .
  4. By today's present economy and market , CA is valued well then mba even in long term. financially too CA freshers are paid well than the MBA freshers.
  5. Looking into the statistics there has been a decline of more than 40% in mba freshers not getting placed and more than 20% of the mba collages are already shut down.

As for the correspondence degree DUNT WORRY it is not of that importance as long as u score well in your CAT.

Also X and XII marks are also not a deciding factor for choosing ya careers what matters is your focussed mind and your strenght to pursue your career without anyone interfearing .

All the best ...

Thank you so much for taking your time out and helping me..Since i am a commerce grad i know few CA subjects and i believe i can do it and m only looking for finance.

The thing m worried about is my age and since i have to do internship for 3 years, the salary in terms of stipend is little worrysome to survive...

I would be very happy to take CA as a career but only stipend is making me think again n again.
