Keep revising and recalling... No shortcuts ....
Can try the mneumonic way too... only if u know how to use it...
The whole income tax is divided into chapters.
or in easy way the whole income tax is divided into different heads.
For e.g:
Salary : Section 15 To 17
House property: Section 18 to 27
Business: Section 28 to 44 etc.
First try to learn which section belongs to which head.
Then section in gross , means how sections are interlinked to each other.
For e.g.
In salary: Section 15 defines about what is salary, what is employer employee etc.
Section 16 describes about deduction
Section 17 tells about what salary includes.
After learning sections, its interlinkage , after that start linking it to other sections.
Moreover, the most important thing which require to gain this: Is
Your interest to learn
Patience
Daily practice
Last but not the list (your way to learn)

You might not be able to remember all the sections.
You can learn those sections first which you can easily relate to. In my case remembering Section 17,24, 37, 43B, 44AB, 44AD, 54 series,80C-80U, 194 Series, 139, 143, 147,148 were easy. Over a period of time I could remember few more sections. It comes only with repetitive learning and revision.
If you can remember, it would be icing on the cake. If you find it very difficult, do not spend more time on learning sections by heart. Rather learn what the section says. You will score more if you can explain the contents and not mention the section rather than just quoting the section and not being able to explain.

Some mnemonic techniques may help you to remember section.
.
More the situation you assume is awakard; more the memory.
.
For example : Salary : .....assume as you are employed and drawing salary of Rs.15000/- which will increase to Rs.17,000/-
.
Same way business : you may assume that you or your close friend has invested Rs.28,00,000/- in business. (Sec. 28)
.
and so on...
