I havent filed tax return for Financial year 2008-09 , can i file it now. ? is there any penalty for filing tax return late and what is the rate/charges ?

The last date for filing the belated return for the FY 2008-09 is 31.03.2011.
If you arrive at any tax liability then interest u/s 234 A, B & C will be applicable as the case may be. A part from this no other penalty is applied.

Yes, you can file ITR for FY:2008-09 (AY:2009-10) till 31st March 2011. This ITR could have been filed without penalty of Rs.5,000/- upto 31.03.2010. If filed after 31.03.2010 but till 31.03.2011, ITO may impose a penalty of Rs.5,000/-. It can not be filed after 31.03.2011. Hence act fast. Professional fee for filing ITR depends on which ITR Form is to be filed.
