From my experience I will suggest
For Direct Tax - V.K Singhania,
Indirect Tax - Module & nothing else is required its more then enough,
IT go with Module.

Best Book for self Study CA Yogendra Bangar Book for "Student' Guide to Taxation" is Exam oriented Book.
