gstr 3b only for the month of July and august only?
if yes, along with this return all the other returns are also to be filed?

No, as of now GSTR-3B has to be filed from July'17 till March'18.
Refer notification no. 56/2017-Central Tax ,dt. 15-11-2017.

we have to file gst1,2,3 returns.
then what is the purpose of adding additional burden also in the form of gstr 3b

As per the notification mentioned above and rightly said, have to file GSTR 3B returns till March 2018. GSTR 3B is only summary return where in you fill only total of your inward and outward supplies whereas in other return you mention invoice wise details.

Also In my View., (Just View not Suggestion)

The CBEC's activity is differently about the Notifications in Current Scenario. Bcoz, Just 1 or 2 months is available for the FY 2017-18. But, Our CBEC is Improved the GSTR 3B...

So,

I think GSTR 3B (and GSTR 1) will be continue to some of the months...

WAIT ON.....
