The Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India (ICWAI) today said that B M Sharma has been elected as its president for the year 2010-2011.
Sharma, who replaces G N Venkataraman, was earlier the vice president of the cost accounting regulator, it said in a statement.
Besides being the president of the Income Tax Sales Tax Practitioners Association, B M Sharma has been on the board of directors of the Maharashtra State Warehousing Corporation and served in various committees of the ICWAI.
Also, M Gopalakrishnan, chairman of Cost Audit Assurance Standard Board of ICWAI, has taken over as the vice-president of the institute for the year.
Gopalakrishnan, an adviser to many listed companies (both in manufacturing and service sectors), was also associated with new technology tie-up ventures for R&D setups with various consumer durable manufacturers, the ICWAI said.
ICWAI is specialised to develop and regulate the profession of cost and management accountancy in India. It has about 47,000 members and more than 2 lakh students on its rolls.
