Audit in Grant Thornton..should i go for it??

hello frinds,

ia m getting a articleship position in grant torhnton's audit department or should i wait more to get a seat into the the tax department in some other frim(DTor IDT dosent matter) ??

plz throw some light here guys..as im getting confused??

In my opinion, going to Grant Thornton makes a lot of sense. Reason being, u are exposed to a good no. of big big corporate clients, good work atmosphere is maintained by GT, u will be exposed to different kinds of accounting softwares, good amount of stipend to meet ur cost of studies by urself and also that GT is giving some good 4 months leave for CA finals now a days.Also, GT has a good brand name which wud be an added advantage if u go in for job after CA. I too was in ur position 4 years ago and i did the biggest mistake by joining a small firm instead of GT thereby depriving me of all the benefits i have mentioned and limiting myself to bad work environment, outdated accounting systems,etc. and had to suffer. hope u too dont commit the same mistake which I have done. thx the invisible ceo (ur name rocks man!!!) but my main concern, is that im getting only the audit department,...and all the audit guyz in all firms send the guys all over delhi and india to do audits,..thus im worried that i wont get time for studies and some classes,etc..

help meh !!

if u always think about ur privilge then its of no use.. if u go all over india for audit.. its really gud.. u cum across new professionals which will be added advantage for ur profession..

come on. Don't get scared by these challenges. If u are sent for audit outside ur hometown, then what?? Join some classes in that city and study along with work, thats it. Haven't we seen enough of Sanji Aggarwal, Ruchika Katyal, Akram Jamal, etc.?? They are from Big 4 only. Mr. Akram Jamal used to visit all over India for audit during his tenure with PWC. He got AIR 2 in June 2009 CA FInal.. As per my opinion, good things come in a package and not in bits and parts. Just ask from ur seniors that whether GT in ur area( I dunno from which city u are) offers u a good 4 to 5 month study holidays. If yes, just go for it.

im from delhi ..grant thonton office in connaught place..almost 25- 30 mins(one way) from ma home.....

but the main problem is that i have bcom exams in mayand CS inter grp2 result is awaited (grp1 clear).result wil be out on 25 feb.and if i pass then cs final in dec..

now tell wut to do??

Ok. Discuss the same with the HR of GT. As per my knowledge, firms like GT gives u leave provided u work hard on other normal days.i.e u are given credit for the excess hours u work over and above ICAI's prexcribed limits.

Dude My frank & right opinion ,don even think of committing a blunder by not joining GT for articles.For sure subjects like audit,Accounts will always be under ur hold if u r working in audit department.This is life time oppurtunity as student to do articles in a reputed firm where ull get to learn lot of things.i joined a small firm due to personal constraints,allthough i had similar oppurtunity as urs.As far managing studies are concerned "Its Always on u" irrespective of small or big firms.3 yrs down the line if u look back ,ull always realise tat u had value addition,else join a small firm u ll ve to find ways to kill time at office.Lastly just imagine wat boost it will provide to ur confidence,whether it be for exam or any other issue in life for that matter.
