Its a fact that u cannot b a CA wihtout the specified 3 yr articleship period.
A CA Student learns a lot during his/her articleship days, it moulds them in a lot of ways. The practical exposure helps them to perform much more better in exams. Its a kind of training period and hence the 3 yrs is also treated as years of experience.
So Never Try to do CA without articleship (ie. by being a dummy). U will miss a lot.

Becoming a CA with Dummy articles is same as Being a Surgeon with only theoretical knowledge.

oh Pls Dhananjay Deepak !! dont compare CAs with Docs...
Dont forget tht theirs is a Full Time course. they learn things and acquire Practical Knowledge through-out thr 4.5yr course
for the same reason, they have a 1-year Internship. Not a lengthy 3.5 yr one.

I don't agree with Divya Sharma/
Even after doing the articleship for 2.5 yrs i still think that i have lots of thinks to learn form the articleship. the articleship also helps in preparing for the exams if doing audit in the articleship u don't have to put much efforts for reading that for the exams. the same is applicable even in case of a Tax.
As far as the original question of soham is concerned you cannot be a member of the institute without completing the articleship.
Refrain from putting such questions on the forums. if anyone reports to the institute about ur great thoughts the institute may take very strict action against you. remember many CA's are also a member of CAClubindia including the office bearers of the institute.

The term of article ship is too long which i think that it should be reduced by a year as in the new scheme of CPT, PCC there is a term of 3 and a half years of articles ship which is too long for the students and the old course of PE-I and PE-II was really nice as in that case the articles ship used to started after passiing out PE-ii which is really justificable in the reference of the students.
