Articleship- is tax better?

Articleship 528 views 4 replies
I am currently pursuing my internship in a big 4 and my LOS is audit. While it is a wonderful opportunity to learn, I have a problem with the erratic timings. In the initial days there may be no work and suddenly we are allocated a lot of work, mostly clerical in nature, and I reach home late. Also, dealing with the client and extracting information is another aspect I don't enjoy. I have heard that in tax the timings are relatively fixed and the work is more technical and interesting. I want to confirm whether in tax I will have more regular timings and will the amount of work be relatively less? Don't get me wrong, I don't mind working till 8 in the night as long as the timing is fixed.

If ur interest is in taxation field then talk to ur boss fr d chnging d dept.. As far as timing is concerned Tax work also require tym but u don't hv to visit client's place unlike audit.. So talk to ur boss only they can help u in dis mttr based on d merits of ur case..
Can u all let me know in which dept there is much to learn audit or tax??? during articleship as I m thinking to do articleship from big4, just gave may14 exams & I have interest in both tax & audit. So confused please do reply. Thanks in advance......

Whether its fixed or flexible timings depends on which Big4 you joined and the location of Big4. Not all tax departments of Big4s have flexible timings. Whatever be the department you now got into Big4 its a good opportunity for your future. Advise you to proceed with the same department and also I dont think once you join in a particular department, there is a scope for shifting to another department. Check the same once with your Partner, if at all such option is avaialble to you.

Thank you everyone for your responses. As per the form policy, change of LOS is not permitted. Since working in a big 4 is a good opportunity, I have decided to stick to audit for the time being. In the meanwhile I'll work on making my technicals strong in DT and IDT so that even if I decide to shift later, it would be much easier.
