I think it has to be with consent of principal....I have not read this, but then I dont think there is anything you can do if you feel cheated as fas the number of working hours are concerned,

What I know is that if the total working in a week exceeds 35 hrs and this overtime is continuously for long period then employer has to compensate for the excess time worked.

the same case stated by nishi is also prevailing in my office also. one of my senior articles has taken study leave for both ca and bcom.now she is on the last 6 months of her articleship.but the principal is saying that she has obligation with him and she should compensate for the leave taken.meanwhile she has took out the copy of ICAI regulations regarding 1/6th of articleship is entitled to be taken as leave.but he simply refused it and said that these rules are not for him he wont consider that.the students are also working on sundays during tax audit.that is also not given as credit.if a student is not able to come on sunday he will put leave on sunday also.please let me know wheteher the ICAI regulations regarding credit for excess working hours and leave entitlement.i think these are just bubble rules which bursts out whenever the principal sneezes
