                                      ARTICLES TRAINING- A MISSED OPPORTUNITY

 

Dear Friends,

The ICAI had introduced the scheme of Article ship training with a very big and noble aim of helping a student to correlate his theoretical studies with the practical aspects. Hence, the article ship training is one of the important stages in the life of a CA student.

A CA student joins the article ship training with lot of dreams. A Dream to learn practical nuances of the subjects which he studies, a dream to make fruitful and lifelong friendships, a dream to know from close quarters a professional, so many dreams.

In practice, has the scheme of article ship training succeeded in meeting its purpose?

How many students are actually realizing their dreams associated with articles training?

Is the total revamp of the scheme of article ship training a need of the hour?

There are many CA firms who register the students only to meet their “office boy “requirements. There are cases, where an articled assistant, who had joined the firm to learn work, is made to run around groceries shop, banks, post offices, Xerox shops and restraunts to do purely personal works of his boss. The confidence level of such an articled student goes down to such levels that he can hardly clear the exams.

There are also the cases where female articled assistants are treated very badly by their bosses.

Many students are getting less than a month as exam leave. 

Thanks to Form 108, no articled assistant dares to raise his voice.

On the other hand there are also firms who give good exposure to their articles assistants, give good leave and in spirit follow the concept of article ship training.

This has definitely established a big gap amongst the students who are trained in such varied firms. Students who are trained in good firms have got undue advantage over other students.

Its high time ICAI takes the problems of articles training seriously. No matter of amendments on paper can solve the problems. ICAI always gives an impression that it is always pro member.

What are the plausible solutions?

The First possible solution could be, an articled assistant can be given the option of doing his articles training in his chosen firm on pilot basis for 2 months and only if he is satisfied, he can register his articles.

The Second possible solution would be an articled assistant is given option of taking transfer in first 6 months wherein he has to send a form signed only by him, without involving the signature and permission of boss and copy of such form forwarded to boss.

At the end of the day, unless the CA who registers under him an articled assistant realizes that he is playing not only with a single person but also with all of his family members, this problem cannot be solved in total.
