Appointment as a statutory auditor

1.When a chartered accountant was a director in a company, somebody else was appointed as statutory auditor.

2.Now the chartered accountant is resigning as a director.

3.Can he be appointed as statutory auditor now?
Please clarify whether it leads to disqualification
