Appeal in income tax

Hello. A demand was raised by the Income Tax Dept. which included the due Tax, Interest and penalty. As i have to file an appeal against the same, I have been asked to pay a pre deposit which is 15%. Kindly clear the confusion if i will have to pay the mentioned 15% on the total demand raised or only on the basic due tax assessesed by the IT department. Thank you for your help.
