If I want to go for appeal over an assessing officer, with in how much time I can do the same
And what is the procedure ?

Form 35 is to be filled within 30days from the service of order applead against..The deatiled procedure is in Sec 249

Dear Anusha,
If you want to go for an appeal against the order of Assessing Officer, you’ll have to go as per Sec 246A of IT Act not as per section 249 as mentioned by AMIR . In which you can make an appeal to Commissioner of Income Tax in prescribed application form 35 within 30 days from the date you received such order from A.O.

Dear Pintoo,
Don't mind but Sec 246A speaks about Appelable Orders and nowhere provides the procedure..The procedure is listed in Sec 249.

WITHIN 30 DAYS
APPEAL FEES 1000 RS.
These things are also mentioned on notice received from I.T.Dept

appeal fee es calculated on the total income as assessed by the assessing officer .
if the total income as assessed by assessing officer is
>1lakh fees is Rs. 250/-
1 lakh - 2 lakhs Rs. 500/-
<2 lakhs Rs. 1,000/-

the procedure or the documents required to appeal against the order of the assessing officer is
1. form 35
2. declaration certificate by the assessee
3. statements of facts and grounds of appeal
4. order copy
5. notice of demand(original), if any
6. challan
7. power of attorney
