Annual return for turnover below 1 crore

I have one query
many professionals talk about annual return of GST is optional but some of other professionals says it's mandatory.
kindly clarify whether it's mandatory or not?

- GSTR Annual return is optional for Turn Over less than 2cr. For Your case it's not mandatory.

Filing of FORM GSTR-9 for FY 2017-18 and FY 2018-19 has been made "OPTIONAL" for taxpayers whose Aggregate Turnover does not exceeds Rs. 2 crore.

So it is optional for you to file Annual Return. If you do not file it within the due date, then it will be deemed to be filed on the due date.

Refer Notification No. 47/2019 - CT, dated 09.10.2019 read with Circular No. 124/2019 CT, dated 18.11.2019 for your reference.

It is safe to file annual return rather than not file it deeming it as optional as it is the last chance to show correct sale and correct input. So that any shortcomings not cured earlier could be cured now through annual return and voluntary discharge of short liability if any may be paid through annual return.

REMOVAL OF DIFFICULTY ORDER ( RoD ) issued :

The Government of India has issued "Order No. 10/2019 - Central Tax, dated 26.12.2019," which seeks to EXTEND the DUE DATE for furnishing of Annual Return/Reconciliation Statement in FORM GSTR-9/FORM GSTR-9C for FY 2017-18 till 31.01.2020.
