once a trader upgrade to GST compliance software in tally, Will he be able to retain OLD account with vat details, for reference in future.

Yes they can. Accounting software relaesed 6.0 to correctness of transactions, in accordance with GST rules.
GSTR 9 and 9C for FY 23-24 as amended by Notification 12/2024 dated 10th July 2024(with recording)
