 Now playing: Stewart wedding

They had the red carpet, their names on the marquee, and a near sell-out crowd at the Clova Cinema on Saturday.

Geoff Stewart and Lavonne Neville – a 24-year-old accountant at KNV Chartered Accountants in White Rock – starred in the weekend screening of “Getting Hitched” at the historic Cloverdale movie house, complete with promo posters and a pair of matching Ford Explorers to usher in the glamourous duo ahead of the paparazzi.

But the Surrey couple wasn’t acting – they were wedded for real.

“I wanted a unique venue,” Stewart said, “and the Clova is beautiful inside and outside.”

With its warm interior and art deco style, the Clova – located at 5732 176 St. and built in 1947 – was the perfect locale for the non-conventional nuptials. Stewart, 26, admits his parents “questioned the idea at first, but then came on board.”

In keeping with the silver screen theme, tables inside were named after an eclectic mix of films – from The Sound of Music to Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery.

About 160 guests witnessed the ceremony, which was followed by a reception at Fort Langley Hall, to continue the historic feel of the event.

It’s not the first time Stewart, who is general manager of Kirmac Collision’s south Richmond store, has put Neville centre stage.

He proposed to her at sunset in St. Mark’s Square in Venice last July.

After their performance Saturday, the couple jetted off to tackle lead roles in the wedding’s sequel, now in production: “Honeymoon in Mexico.”
