UAE's Federal Tax Authority (FTA) collaborated with the Department of Islamic Affairs in Sharjah to hold a Customer Council session on recovering Value Added Tax (VAT) incurred on the construction and operation of mosques. The Council, attended by mosque donors, provided an overview of the Customer Councils initiative before FTA experts gave an induction on the conditions and mechanism for recovering VAT. Refund requests are submitted based on specific timelines, depending on the date of completion or start of operation of the mosque. Participants were able to ask questions, share their perspectives, and offer suggestions for improving the VAT refund mechanism and the FTA's services in general. The Customer Councils initiative aims to facilitate communication between customers and the UAE Government, align government services with customer aspirations, and streamline access to these services.
