TDS stands for Tax Deducted at Source is a mechanism through which the government collects taxes from the source of income itself. TDS is applicable to various types of payments such as salaries, interest, rent, commission, consultancy fees, professional fees, etc. The rates and thresholds vary depending on the nature of the payment and the status of the recipient.
