Overcoming the exam failure

Hi Friends, It’s good to be back after a long time. It took me a while to clear CA Final exams. However, it has taught me many things. Today, I’m going to share some techniques to boost in your preparation if failure has struck you.

The day when you see your result as FAIL people are not able to understand what has exactly happened. Suddenly negative thoughts, feelings crops up and it makes us nervous. You start looking your future with fear and the thought of studying it all again…..OMG!!! (U can understand how a 2nd 3rd attempt failed student feel about it)

ON THE DAY OF RESULT IF THE RESULT IS FAIL:

A: Take care from Technical point of view:

Accept the fact- It needs hold on your mind to accept the fact and facing the world. Do not give any explanations why you could not make it. When there is a failure, take the whole responsibility. Because, if you start blaming others you won’t get a chance to improve yourself and the probability of repeating failure in the very next attempt increases.

Ask for photocopies- On the day of the result ICAI issues the suggested answers. I insist you to get the photocopies of all the papers that you have appeared. Once you have the photocopies answers written can be cross checked with suggested. You will immediately understand what ICAI expects from us. (If any subject is not conceptually clear you will figure it out immediately)

Make a list of mistakes- Write it down. Make a list of valid mistakes that you have done and make sure you won’t repeat it in the next attempt. But make sure that you are actually putting it on a paper.

Appear for both groups- If you have appeared for both the groups but couldn’t make it then please don’t underestimate yourself. Again sit for both the groups because learning curve will take care and you will be able to study both groups.

Join coaching if lack conceptual clarity- If you think that subject clarity is what you need, then I insist you to join coaching if possible. Due to some reasons if it is not possible then make sure you get the concepts from your friends, mentor. Without concepts cracking the exams is not possible.

Have a Strategy- This is one of the major things that many students can’t work out. Strategy is a game plan. It defines how you are going to win the battle. Remember what has happened in Mahabharata. We all know that Kauravas had massive army and very talented person such as Bhishma, Dronacharya and Karna. Without strategy it was impossible to win. Krishna made all the strategies against them and that’s why the Pandavas won. In this battle Tum hi Krishna ho aur tum hi Arjun !!!!!

To make my point clear, I will give you one example of what strategy can be. Suppose you have got 60 Marks in IDT however both the groups are down. Now you need 140 to clear 2nd group as you have already earned 60 marks. Now scoring over and above 140 will provide the cushion for group 1.  Higher the score in group 2 will secure the position of group 1. So even if you can’t reach up to 200 in group 1, excess marks in group 2 will take care of the set off and you will be able to clear both the groups.

Writing practice is a must- Write, write and keep writing. The more you write, more you remember. Don’t make any excuse such as time constraint and all. Increase your study hours however don’t compromise your writing practice. Writing is a skill and it develops over the period. You will understand what is to be written and what is to be skipped. It increases the maturity and it helps while writing the main exam. The more you sweat in peace, the less you bleed in war.

B: Take care from emotional point of view:

Get a self help book- There are many self help books available in market. You don’t have to invest your much time into this. 10-15 minutes reading in your leisure time will support you emotionally. You will feel strong. It helps a lot when you feel low and hopeless. Few I would suggest are “The magic of Thinking Big”, “You can win” etc.

Subscribe to a motivational quotes website- Another simple but powerful booster in your day to day activities. These websites will send you a daily motivational quote. While you are preparing for your exams I’m sure you will be able to relate many things to this. It works as a magic.

Write down your goals daily- Brain Tracy suggests that you should write your goals on a daily basis and in Present tense. Suppose if you want to clear CA in Nov 15 with 440 marks and you have aimed for exemption in AMA and FR. Then you should write it as “I have appeared for both the groups of CA Final in Nov 15 and I have cleared it with 440 marks out of 800 and secured exemption in FR as well as AMA”. Writing this daily makes your sub cautious mind believe that it has actually happened and it will work in your favor.

Clarity is everything- The aim that you are setting should be crystal clear in your mind. The expected mark sheet can be visualized. You should know the Grand total of both groups as well as total of individual groups and subject wise score that you want. This is what I meant clarity.

Watch Motivational videos, Stories- Every night before going to sleep watch one motivational video on you tube. Read any motivational story. Google has many motivational quotes images. You can save them on your device.

Put CA before your name- In your smart phone keep it as Owner’s info. You should daily view it. Bombard yourself with positivity. Negative feelings will fade away soon. Put the same on your study table. It will be a reality soon.

Trust God- God’s plan for your life is very high and they are the best. Never give up on your unanswered prayer; God is working on it. Wait patiently for the perfect time. (Source: Unknown)

Work Hard (Plus smart) - There is no substitute to hard work. It’s the way of life and it is the best thing ever.  Always be happy. Give your best to the task in hand. Failure itself teaches how to overcome it.

I would like to conclude with a quote from a Movie Rocky (Must watch series for a CA Student)- Rocky Balboa: “Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done”

I hope this will help. I would like to write more if you like this article. You can refer Part I and Part II of “The Burning Desire Series”
