The new Income Tax Website has replaced the old income tax website. It was launched on the 7th of June at 8:45 PM. The new website was launched with the aim of providing its users and taxpayers with a user-friendly environment on the website and to make the e-filling experience simpler and smarter.
The Income Tax Department said, 'The objective of this portal is to provide a single-window to income tax related services for taxpayers and other stakeholders.'
But unfortunately, within some hours of its launch, the site started showing certain issues like the taxpayers were unable to access the website, popping up of different types of error, and many more technical glitches.
The website was showing a constant error like -
'This site can't be reached. eportal.incometax.gov.in unexpectedly closed the connection'
Professionals like Chartered Accountants are also facing major issues accessing the website. They are saying that they are not able to file the responses to the assessment notices from 7th June 2021 onwards. Also, many links are not working, which is creating many types of problems. They are not even able to file the ITRs.
Moreover, the tax department on 25th May 2021 had issued a circular saying that the taxpayers will not be able to submit Form 15CA and CB during the intervening period of revamping of the e-filing portal which will be from 31st May 2021 till 6th June 2021. So, those who were planning to do remittances during the blackout period of 1st June to 6th June were advised to do it by the midnight of 31st May. But, even after 6th June 2021, taxpayers are unable to issue a certificate in Form 15CB and due to this, the payments from the banks are stuck.
Users and Taxpayers have also tweeted their complaints tagging the Income Tax Department and the Finance Ministry on Twitter.
Check out some of those Tweets below:
Our Finance Minister, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman saw her Twitter timeline flooded with lots of user complaints and thereafter she got to know about these issues which the taxpayers are facing.
She tweeted and said,
'The much-awaited E-filing Portal 2.0 was launched last night at 20:45hrs. I see in my TL grievances and glitches. Hope @Infosys & @NandanNilekani will not let down our taxpayers in the quality of service being provided. Ease in compliance for the taxpayer should be our priority.'
Infosys was awarded the contract to develop the next-generation income tax filing system to reduce the processing time for returns from 63 days to one day and expedite refunds. Infosys had also developed the GST Network (GSTN) portal, used for GST payment and return filing.
Following the Tweet, Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani took to the platform and said retweeting FM's tweet,
'The new e-filing portal will ease the filing process and enhance end user experience. Nirmala Sitharaman Ji, we have observed some technical issues on day one, and are working to resolve them. Infosys regrets these initial glitches and expects the system to stabilize during the week.'
So, the taxpayers and the users are really awaiting that the income tax website shall be in a good condition as soon as possible and they can resume their work with ease.
Hoping that the technical glitches are resolved and the taxpayers get to avail the benefits of the new website.
