WHAT IS ICEGATE?
Indian Customs Electronic Gateway (ICEGATE) is the national portal of Indian Customs of Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) that provides e-filing services to the Trade, Cargo Carriers and other Trading Partners electronically.

As per the date on the ICEGATE website, at present, there are 43,542 registered users serving more than 12.5 lakhs of importers/exporters. It helps in faster customs clearance in EXIM trade. Through this facility, Indian Customs offers a host of services, including electronic filing of the Bill of Entry (import goods declaration), Shipping Bills (export goods declaration), e-Payment of Customs Duty, a free of cost web-based Common Signer utility for signing all the Customs Documents, facility to file online supporting documents through e Sanchit, end to end electronic IGST Refund and etc.
All electronic documents/ messages being handled by the ICEGATE are processed at the Customs' end by the Indian Customs EDI System (ICES), which is running at 245 Customs Locations.ICEGATE also provides a host of other services like 24X7 helpdesk facility for its trading partners, e payment of Central Excise and Service Tax, on-line registration for IPR, Document Tracking status at Customs EDI, online verification of DEPB/DES/EPCG licenses, IE code status, PAN-based CHA data, IGST Refund Status and links to various other important websites/information related to EXIM Trade.
BILL OF ENTRY UNDER ICEGATE
ICEGATE enables the Electronic filing of a Bill of Entry (declaration of import). One of the major benefits of using ICEGATE is that it provides digital security. It uses a Digital signature on the Bill of entry and other documents which are handled and processed under the ICEGATE and the customs department.
Bill of Entry is a document submitted to the customs department in the customs clearance procedure. The filing of BOE is done by an importer or by Clearing House Agent.
The importer will be able to claim ITC on goods only when the Bill of Entry for the same has been filed on or before the arrival of the goods.

What does a Bill of Entry consist of?
- BOE number
- Date on BOE
- Name and address of the Importer.
- Port code
- Mode of payment under BOE.
- Value of the goods
- Tax details like IGST, customs duty, additional duty.
- IEC code, GSTIN, and PAN numbers.
Tracking of BOE at ICES
Services like tracking of BOE, shipping bill, etc are provided by the ICEGATE service portal.
A BOE can be tracked in the following way -
- Enter the URL - https://enquiry.icegate.gov.in/enquiryatices/beTrackIces
- Select the location using the PORT Code from the dropdown
- Enter BOE Number in the space
- Enter Bill of Entry Date
- Enter Image Letters (Captcha Image)
- And click on Submit.
