ICAI Online REGISTRATION FOR CA FOUNDATION COURSE
The Foundation course, earlier known as Common Proficiency Test is the entry level examination for the Chartered Accountancy Profession, which is conducted, twice a year in the months of May and November. However, students are required to complete a 4-months study period from the date of registration to the date of exam. Thus, students registering on or after 30th June / 31st December, will be giving their exam in the months of November and May respectively.
Eligibility Criteria
1. Students who have appeared for the Class 12th board examinations from any central or state recognized institution can register for the Foundation exam.
2. The registered student can appear for the examination only after qualifying the Senior Secondary Examination I.e. Class 12 conducted by an examining body constituted by law.
3. The student can appear for the examination only after undergoing a minimum of 4-months study period from the date of registration to the date of examination.

Papers 3 and 4 are objective type with negative marking.
Passing Criteria in Foundation Examination
1. Students have to attain a minimum of 40% marks in all subjects and,
2. Students have to attain a minimum of 50% marks overall.
ICAI Online Registration Procedure
Step 1: Visit the link

Step 2: On the screen that appears, enter your basic details such as Salutation, Full Name, Date of Birth, E-mail Address, Mobile Number, Nationality etc. and click on "Generate OTP".
Step 3: On the next screen, enter the OTP received on your registered mobile number and verify the same.
Step 4: You will now receive the login credentials on your registered mobile number and email ID.
Step 5: Login through the login credentials received at

Step 6: After logging in, you will be able to see two option. Select "Student Cycle" on the left side.
Step 7: On the screen that appears, click "Apply for Foundation".
Step 8: On the screen that appears, enter details like father’s name, mother’s name, marital status, Aadhaar Number, PAN Number, City, Pin Code etc.
Step 9: Post entering all the details, click on "Save and Next".
Step 10: You will now have to select the medium of study. Choose from English or Hindi and click on "Save and Next".
Step 11: The next step is to upload a photograph of yours. This should be in the PDF or JPEG Format and less than 1 MB. Post uploading the photograph, click on "Generate OTP" and enter the OTP you received.
Step 12: The last step is to pay the registration fees.

On successful payment of fees, the system will automatically generate the form, together with a successful transaction message.
Step 13: Take a print out of the form and courier the same to the postal address of ICAI along with the required documents.

Provisional Admission to Foundation Course
Due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the board examinations of CBSE/ICSE/State Boards were postponed, due to which students were not able to do online ICAI Registration for the Foundation Course. In lieu of these students, ICAI had made an announcement on 5th April 2020, wherein, the authorities relaxed the eligibility criteria for registering in the Foundation Course.
"Candidate may provisionally register in the Foundation Course on or before 30th June 2020 if he has been either allotted the admit card and/or appeared in one or more papers in the months of February/March 2020 in the Senior Secondary (10+2) Examination conducted by an examining body constituted by law in India or an examination recognised by the Central Government or the State Government as equivalent thereto for the purpose of admission to graduation course and;
appear in November 2020 Foundation examination after passing the Senior Secondary (10+2) examination conducted by an examining body as mentioned above."

Important Clarifications regarding Provisional Admission to Foundation Course
1. Students are required to complete their ICAI Online Registrationfor the Provisional Admission on or before 30th June 2020 to sit for the November 2020 examination.
2. Class 12 students who could not finish board examinations due to the COVID-19 pandemic can provisionally register for the Foundation Course, provided that they have either been allotted the admit card and/or have appeared in one or more board examination papers conducted by the examining body. This examining body could be recognised by the Central Government or any of the State Governments
3. ICAI Online Registration(Provisional) to the Foundation Course cannot be done by students who have passed Class 11. The student must have been allotted the admit card for Class 12 board examinations or must have appeared in one or more examination papers.
4. Candidates will not be eligible to sit for the November 2020 attempt of the Foundation Course in case they do not pass Class 12 examination.
5. Candidates who wish to register provisionally can do so by visiting the ICAI website at https://www.icai.org/indexbkp.html and register online at https://eservices.icai.org/ .
6. Candidates are not supposed to courier/post the form and documents once they have registered provisionally. They are required to upload all documents and pay the fees online.
7. In case of any problem regarding the provisional registration, candidates can send their query at foundation.registration@icai.in .
8. The relaxation in the eligibility criteria for the Foundation Course is a one-time measure only, as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Under normal circumstances, this concept shall not be followed.
